“I have always been interested in creating clothes, but only recently have I started to explore the world of fashion more deeply. For the first time, I tried to create some clothes in the Style3D program – and it was by chance 😂 While creating, I felt excitement and curiosity, but at the same time I did not understand what I was doing and “why the armhole looks the way it does”.
course “Clothing Design” and Olga Skrybets’ teaching gave me an understanding of the basic logic of creating patterns and helped dispel one of my fears – mathematics 😂 During the classes, I first felt that I had fun and was interested in working with numbers and calculations. The plans are to deepen the acquired knowledge and use it to create digital clothes that can be used as visualization for brands, games, and also recreate it in real life,” says Alyona.
We talked to her in more detail about her path to fashion, her first experiments and plans for the future.
What brought you to fashion? Was there a specific moment or event that triggered it?
As a child, I liked playing games that involved creating small collections of clothes, and it was the process of choosing patterns and textures that fascinated me. That's why I planned to do fashion for a long time, but my plans changed.
What was your first experience at Style3D like in more detail: what exactly did you work on?
My first experience was just to try out how it works. How the flat shape will look on the model, what seam or cut affects the fit. So my first attempts were purely experimental, without understanding the structure.
What specifically changed in your perception of mathematics? Was there a moment or lesson that was a turning point?
I always thought that math wasn't for me, but during the design course I realized that I never had any difficulty with calculations or drawings. There was no turning point as such, but there was a moment of insight - not a single lesson was boring or difficult for me.
Are there already the first results: finished patterns, products, sketches?
There are a few sketches I'm working on, but I'm still working on the patterns. Right now, I'm mostly repeating the products from the course using my family's measurements.
How do you envision your digital clothing in the future? Which brands would you like to work for?
I imagine my clothes as a more creative project with the possibility of tailoring, because the virtual space gives the opportunity for bold looks that can be demonstrated even before the physical tailoring. I haven't thought about brands yet, I'm more interested in individual work.
What would you say to someone who is afraid to come to a course?
Don't give up on new knowledge if you are a humanitarian. It's not as difficult as it seems. The coach and other students will always help and support you in the process.
